I am walking in The Great MND Relay this year to support an extraordinary young man, Finn, and to honour a very special person in my life—my stepfather, Shane.

Shane is the definition of kindness and generosity. His presence has been a calming and stabilising force in our lives. From the moment he married my mum, he welcomed the challenge of two strong-willed and sometimes difficult teenage daughters, embracing us with unconditional love and unwavering support. He has always been our quiet cornerstone, ready to back us up at a moment's notice.

This cause is deeply personal to me. Having seen the devastating effects of Motor Neurone Disease firsthand with my aunt thirty years ago, I was heartbroken to learn that Shane would face the same battle. The shock and disbelief hit hard, but they also fortified my resolve to stand by him just as firmly as he has always stood by us.

Shane is not just my stepfather; he is also Finn's adored Glampa. Finn's decision to participate in this relay, walking 251 minutes for the 251 Victorians diagnosed with MND last year, is a testament to his love and respect for his Glampa. I am walking to support Finn's incredible initiative and to show Shane that he is not alone in this fight.

Life can be overwhelmingly unfair, and while it's difficult to understand why Shane must endure this disease, our commitment to supporting him never wavers. This walk is more than just a physical challenge; it's a statement of solidarity—a way to show Shane that we are with him every step of the way, fighting against MND with the same strength and courage he has shown throughout his life.

Please join me in this heartfelt cause. Your support not only helps raise awareness and funds for MND but also shows Shane and all those battling this disease that they are not alone. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
